Life Insurance Mechanics! - samuelswauger - 10-08-2026

Hello all!

This feature has been in the making for a long, long time, and I'm excited to say that it's finally here. Dying on hardcore.tj has always meant waiting either three days in the server graveyard, or hoping the community votes you back to life via your respawn poll, or paying a steep buyout cost and now, there's a much better way! With a life insurance policy, your insurer pays for your revive when you die, so you skip the poll and get back to your base. Basic cover costs less than one vote a week, and new players already hold a free starter policy: three revives during their first 24 hours.

Getting covered takes two commands. Type !insurance quote to see every insurer's price for you (it's based on real death records, so careful players pay less), then !insurance buy <insurer> to take out a policy. Coverage begins 24 hours later and is billed weekly (Sunday nights) in vote points. When you die, your insurer handles the claim. Depending on the company you get an instant payout, a short review, or a statement posted in the Insurance Claims section of the forum, where the Claims Desk can also answer questions about your policy. Sometimes you need to go to the forum to post a claim to collect on your policy, it depends on what broker you choose. You can browse the insurers and manage your policy at https://hardcore.tj/insurance

I recognize the potential for insurance fraud to collect vote points, so there are safeguards built in to prevent it. Suspicious claims are decided by community vote. Players can vote with !insurance vote <claim number> yay or nay, or from the server graveyard on the website, and repeat fraudsters get blacklisted. If you think that you could run an insurer better than the house companies, you can found your own with !insurance company, or back one with !insurance pools and share in its fortunes.

Thanks
