Life insurance on hardcore.tj: frequently asked questions

Ask anything else in this section and the claims desk will answer. It can see your own policy when you ask from your linked forum account.

What does a policy actually buy me?
A revive on hardcore.tj when you die of a covered cause, without waiting on the Arbiter's poll, and with most insurers some cash. The poll still runs while a claim is open, so you are never worse off for claiming.

How do I buy one?
In game: !insurance quote shows every insurer's price for you, !insurance buy <insurer> buys full cover (add "basic" for the cheapest). Or use https://hardcore.tj/insurance. Vote Points only; no real money.

Why is my price different from my friend's?
Prices come from the server's records, not a questionnaire: your deaths in the last 30 days, PvP kills, trust score, how long you have played, past lapses and fraud strikes. It is re-rated every week, each claim-free week earns a discount, and a claim raises it.

What is covered?
Everyday deaths (drowning, starvation, suffocation and the like) always. PvP, mobs, falls and the void, and lava, fire and the Nether are separate riders, priced by how many people each has killed lately. Full cover is all four at a discount.

When does cover start?
24 hours after you buy or join a policy. A death before then is not covered. Claims must be at least 3 days apart.

How much cash do I get?
A share of the premiums you have paid in and not yet had back, up to your insurer's cap, less the deductible. It can never exceed what you have paid, so dying on purpose does not pay.

I died. What now?
A thread for your claim opens in this section, posted from your own forum account. Some insurers pay at once or file for you. Others want your statement: reply in your claim thread and say what happened. Their adjuster will argue. Give a sensible account and they have to pay a covered claim.

I have no forum account.
One was made for you when you bought your policy. Type !insurance forum in game for a link that logs you in.

Why did my claim go to a vote?
The adjuster flags deaths that look arranged: a policy under 72 hours old, repeated claims, or being killed by someone close to you (see the Known Associates list on your trust page). The community votes for 30 minutes in the Graveyard or with !insurance vote <claim> yay|nay.

What happens if the vote goes against me?
The claim is denied and you get a fraud strike, which shows on your trust page and lowers your trust score. 2 strikes within 90 days and every insurer blacklists you for 30 days.

When am I billed, and what if I cannot pay?
Weekly, Sunday 11:30 PM New York time, from your escrow vault first and then your balance. You are reminded 24 hours before. If the payment fails you stay covered for 48 hours; after that the policy lapses, and a lapse raises your next quote.

Can I cover a friend?
Yes: !insurance add <player>. They must accept in game before they are covered or you are charged. Nobody can be insured without agreeing to it.

What are the pools?
Every insurer is backed by a pool of Vote Points. Premiums go in, claims come out. !insurance stake <insurer> <amount> buys you a share: you gain when its customers live and lose when they do not. Stakes are locked for 7 days.

Can I run my own insurance company?
Yes. Registration costs a 5000 VP tax to the server plus at least 2000 VP of your own capital for its pool, and the server keeps 30% of every premium it collects. You set its price, cash share, deductible and how it handles claims: !insurance company.

What is a wager?
!insurance rival <player> <weekly stake> bets on another player's death. They are told at once and can buy it out. It pays 1.5x your stake only after 7 days and a community vote, and never if you or your spouse did the killing.

I am new. Do I get anything?
Yes. Barnaby the Broker of Newcomer's Mutual gives every new player a free Starter Policy: 3 revives during your first 24 hours.

Who are the insurers?
Block Farm (blockfarm): wants your statement on the forum, deductible 150 VP, cash none; Mineco (mineco): wants your statement on the forum, deductible 100 VP, cash 25% of premiums paid up to 500 VP; Crafters Mutual (crafters): files for you, about 2 min, deductible 50 VP, cash 40% of premiums paid up to 1200 VP; AllBlock (allblock): pays on the spot, deductible 0 VP, cash 60% of premiums paid up to 2500 VP; Wandering Trader Mutual (wanderer): wants your statement on the forum, deductible 250 VP, cash none; Piglin Barter & Trust (piglin): wants your statement on the forum, deductible 200 VP, cash 50% of premiums paid up to 1500 VP; Ender Assurance (ender): files for you, about 1 min, deductible 25 VP, cash 50% of premiums paid up to 1800 VP
